James Cameron's Avatar, released in 2009 by the US studio Lightstorm Entertainment, has earned close to $2.9 billion worldwide, the most of any film in cinema history before adjusting for inflation. It first set the record in 2010 and reclaimed it after a theatrical re-release, following a brief period in which Avengers: Endgame held the top spot.
