The Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze River has an installed generating capacity of about 22,500 megawatts, making it the largest hydroelectric power station on Earth. Completed in 2012 after roughly two decades of construction, it also created a reservoir stretching several hundred kilometers upstream.
