Record Description

Carved onto more than 81,000 wooden printing blocks in the 13th century and preserved at Haeinsa Temple, the Tripitaka Koreana is regarded as the oldest and most complete version of the Buddhist canon still in existence. UNESCO has recognized both the woodblocks and the temple depository that has kept them intact for nearly 800 years.
