Record Description
The Red Cross movement was founded in Geneva in 1863 by Swiss businessman Henry Dunant after he witnessed the aftermath of the Battle of Solferino, and it grew into what is now the world's largest humanitarian network with national societies in nearly every country. The International Committee of the Red Cross remains headquartered in Geneva.
