Largest Bird Egg Relative to Body Size

A female brown kiwi weighing about 1.7 kg was recorded laying an egg of roughly 406 g, close to a quarter of her own body weight, the largest egg-to-body-weight ratio of any bird. Kiwi are flightless birds native only to New Zealand and are the country's national icon.
