The Khewra Salt Mine in Punjab is regarded as the second-largest salt mine on the planet, with a tunnel network stretching about 40 kilometers through reserves estimated at well over 100 million tons. It has been worked continuously since the 19th century and still yields more than 300,000 tons of rock salt a year.
