Record Description
The copper mines of the Timna Valley in southern Israel were worked as far back as the sixth or fifth millennium BCE, with major production continuing into the early Iron Age. Archaeologists have documented thousands of ancient mining and smelting sites scattered across the valley. The area is now preserved as a park showcasing this long history of metalworking.
