Record Description

Greek has a written record stretching back roughly 3,400 years to Linear B tablets from the Mycenaean period, making it one of the longest continuously documented languages still in everyday use. It has passed through Ancient, Koine, Byzantine and Modern Greek stages while retaining a direct line of written evidence throughout. Modern Greek remains the official language of both Greece and Cyprus today.
