World's Only Capital City Without Traffic Lights

Thimphu, Bhutan's capital, directs traffic at its busiest intersections using white-gloved police officers rather than electric signals. A traffic light was briefly installed at the main downtown junction but removed after residents objected to it. Thimphu is frequently cited as the only national capital in the world without a single operating traffic light.
