Record Description

Angkor Wat covers roughly 162.6 hectares near Siem Reap and was built in the early 12th century under King Suryavarman II, originally as a Hindu temple later adapted for Buddhist worship. Guinness World Records recognizes it as the largest religious structure on the planet by ground area. It remains Cambodia's most recognized national symbol and appears on the country's flag.
