Record Description

In 1974, researchers discovered the fossilized skeleton of a roughly 3.2-million-year-old Australopithecus afarensis at Hadar in Ethiopia's Afar region, nicknamed "Lucy." At about 40 percent complete, it remains one of the most complete and scientifically significant early hominin skeletons ever recovered.
