Lake Tanganyika, bordered by Tanzania along much of its eastern shore, reaches a depth of about 1,470 meters, making it the second-deepest lake in the world after Russia's Lake Baikal. At roughly 673 kilometers long, it is also recognized as the world's longest freshwater lake.
