Record Description

British explorer John Hanning Speke identified the point where the Nile River flows out of Lake Victoria at Jinja, Uganda, in 1862, resolving a long-standing geographical mystery over the source of the world's longest river. The site remains a major landmark and tourist attraction in Uganda today.
