Record Description

Carved into the desert plain of southern Peru sometime between 300 BCE and 540 CE, the Nazca Lines include a single straight groove stretching 14.4 kilometers, the longest known pre-Columbian line on Earth. The enormous geoglyphs, which also depict animals and geometric shapes, are only fully visible from the air. Their original purpose is still debated by archaeologists.
