Record Description

The Amazon River, which many hydrologists argue is longer than the Nile depending on how its mouth is measured, rises high in the Peruvian Andes near Arequipa. Guinness World Records currently credits the Nile as the official record holder at 6,695 kilometers, but estimates that include the Amazon's Para estuary put its length at around 6,750 kilometers. The debate over which river is truly the longest remains unresolved among scientists.
