Record Description

Completed in stages through 1986 on the Caroni River, the Guri Dam once generated more installed hydroelectric capacity, about 10,235 megawatts, than any other power plant on Earth. It later lost that distinction to Brazil and Paraguay's Itaipu Dam and subsequently to China's Three Gorges Dam. Guri nonetheless remains one of the largest hydroelectric facilities ever built and supplies the majority of Venezuela's electricity.
