Record Description

Built in 1897 in Vienna's Prater amusement park to mark Emperor Franz Joseph I's golden jubilee, the Wiener Riesenrad is the oldest Ferris wheel still in operation anywhere in the world. Standing about 65 meters tall, it survived near-total destruction during World War II and was rebuilt using only half of its original 30 gondolas. It remains one of Vienna's most recognizable landmarks.
