Record Description
Established in 1917 near Passendale in West Flanders, Tyne Cot holds 11,965 burials from the First World War, more than any other Commonwealth war cemetery anywhere in the world. Nearly 8,400 of the graves belong to soldiers who were never identified. An adjoining memorial wall lists tens of thousands of additional soldiers whose remains were never recovered.
