Early Discovery of Penicillium's Antibacterial Properties

Costa Rican scientist Clodomiro Picado Twight documented the antibacterial effects of Penicillium fungi in 1923, five years before Alexander Fleming's celebrated discovery of penicillin, and later pioneered snake antivenom research still produced by the institute bearing his name.
